| At
Gymnastics Unlimited, we try to provide as many successful experiences for our
students as possible. Through participation in our annual GYMFESTS, students have
the opportunity to perform in front of an audience of family and friends. We believe
this experience builds character in children and provides goals and incentives
for excellence and hard work. Our GYMFESTS are conducted in the spring (approximately
mid to late April). Please refer to our “Calendar of Events” for the
tentatively scheduled date. Below are some of the most commonly asked questions
about GYMFEST.
Q. What is a GYMFEST?
A. Gymfest is an annual event in
which we involve the children from our
classes. It is similar to a dance recital
in that children learn gymnastic routines
and perform them in front of family and
friends. Gymfest is held at our North
Moesto facility, where we set up the gym
like one would for a regular gymnastics
competition. Each Gymfest has a theme
which is carried out with elaborate decorations
to make it awesome!
Q. What do the children wear?
A. The children are required to wear uniforms. These uniforms are purchased
through Gymnastics Unlimited. The approximate cost is between $45.00 and $50.00.
The girls wear a leotard that matches the group they participate with, while ALL
boys wear matching “step-in” jerseys and tumbling shorts. Wearing
matching uniforms makes the event look professional, and at the same time, gives
the children a feeling of pride. It’s fun to look and feel like the gymnasts
on television!
Q. What will the children do at the GYMFEST?
A. For our Tot and Kindergym classes (under age 5) we basically run a class,
but on a much larger, grander scale. This large-scaled class gives the little
ones the opportunity to show off all the different skills they’ve been learning.
The parents are on the floor with the Tots. As for Kindergym children, the parents
get to watch from the stands. For our older children (5 and up), we put together
routines based on the skill level of each child. These routines are performed
in front of judges. Children are awarded ribbons based on what they score, not
on whom they beat.
Q. What else do you need to know about GYMFEST?
A. Our GYMFESTS are OPTIONAL. Your child does not have to participate,
although we do encourage it! If your child expresses an interest, please remember...some
of our children (particularly the younger ones) will need some encouragement from
the parents and staff. A natural nervousness will be evident. Please remember,
it’s hard to perform in front of an audience. Please remind the children
that they will receive ribbons, a medal, and a theme based surprise along with
having a wonderful time!
